Information Resources for Medical Students and Others Interested in Neurosurgery

The department is committed to recruiting a talented and diverse group of residents. All factors are taken into account with no one factor taking precedence. We are interested in recruiting residents who are willing to work as a part of team and are committed to academic neurosurgery. Grades, board scores, and research are important factors but we are as interested in a candidate’s future potential as we are in their previous accomplishments.

How to Apply

Residency Training Program

Candidate should apply through ERAS.

Application Notes:
  • Applications must be completed by November 1, 2016
  • Applicants must be graduate of medical schools accredited by the American Association of Medical Colleges. The list of member AAMC Colleges can be found at
  • Applications must include three letters of reference (including at least one from a neurosurgeon).
  • USMLE step 1 scores, and step 2 if available
Interview Dates 2017:
  • Invitations to interview are mailed in early December
  • Interviews are conducted in January.
    • Monday January 9th, 2017
    • Tuesday January 10th, 2017
  • Applicants are invited to attend a dinner with the MGH Neurosurgery Residents at the end of the interview day.
